Make Healthy Marshmallows With A Low-Calorie Content

Health risks of extra sugar

If you consume a lot of sugar, it increases the overall calorie content and that can lead to obesity and unhealthy weight gain. The foods that are high in sugar (read marshmallows), are generally low in nutrition.

The sugar has been connected to some long-term health issues. If you eat too much sugar, that will be connected to the following:

  • Cancer (especially pancreatic cancer)
  • Heart disease
  • Cholesterol
  • Tooth problems (cavities)
  • Diabetes and insulin resistance
  • Addictions to food

Recipe for healthy marshmallow

These sweet marshmallows that can be made at home, are an amazing dessert even for those people who have health problems. And these marshmallows can be made in a chocolate or coconut version, based on your preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon gelatin
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

Grease one loaf pan lightly, and cover it with parchment paper, and then grease the paper too.

Put 1/4 cup of water in a bowl, and then sprinkle the gelatin over the water, and set it aside to soften.

In one small pot, place the salt, honey and the other 1/4 cup of water, and heat it on a medium heat. With a candy thermometer, bring the mixture in the pot to 240 degrees. Then, remove it from the heat.

Then, with a hand mixer on a low, mix in the hot syrup into the mixture with gelatin by pouring the syrup in the bowl. Mix it well, and add the vanilla extract, and then increase the speed of the mixer to high. Beat it well for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until the mixture is fluffy and thick. Then scrap it into the pan and leave it uncovered for 4 to 12 hours to dry. Cut it into squares, and your marshmallows are ready.

Cocoa version – roll finished and the cut the marshmallows in a cocoa powder.

Coconut version – toast half cup of coconut flakes, and sprinkle half of the flakes on the bottom of the pan, then scrap in the mixture, and sprinkle the rest of the flakes.
